Quartzsite - 2010

Tuesday 01/05/2010 - Elliot & Zola put the last of the items in the trailer, all we had was a few groceries, and we plan to do our grocery shopping at Wal-Mart in Mesquite, Nevada. There is 4 inches of snow on the lawn and 2 inches on the trailer but the weather is good and the roads are clear. We are headed for Quartzsite, Arizona stopping in Mesquite and Las Vegas, Nevada on the way. Traveling is good and we fueled the truck in Nephi, Parowan, Utah and later in Mesquite, Nevada spending $114.17 for 43.27 gal. of gas. We arrived at the Oasis RV Park arriving at 3:45 p.m. in Mesquite, Nevada the sky is mostly clear with high whisper clouds and the temperature is 65 dg. F. There was still some snow (ice) on the trailer roof. Elliot went to the hotel registration phone and registered for the RV Park and got the assigned parking Site #78. Elliot parked the trailer and went to the Oasis hotel registration desk and registered using a coupon for four free nights. The trailer shook around while traveling, the end caps on the sewer hose carrier came off and we lost the sewer hose. While Elliot set up the trailer and flushed the antifreeze from the water system, and filled the hot water tank Zola straightened the things around in the trailer. Zola needed some medicine so we went to Wal-Mart Pharmacy, getting the medicine was complicated so we will give them tonight to straighten them out and we’ll go back in the morning to get the medicine. Elliot bought a new sewer hose with connection ends and a few other things then we had a Subway Sandwich at Wal-Mart then went back to the trailer.
Wednesday 01/06/2010 – It is a nice weather day and in the morning we worked around/on the trailer, and had lunch in the trailer. The toe Zola dropped a coaster on about a month ago was sour and dark red from the end to the middle of the toe, at 1:00 p.m. we went to the Mesa Valley Regional Hospital Emergency and saw Dr. Donald Reisch, he examined the toe, had it X-Rayed, tested Zola’s blood and the Nurse gave Zola an IV with a anti-biotic Avanz in it and the Doctor gave her a prescription for 10 days supply of Amox/k Clav 875-125 Tablets and recommended a doctor for follow-up in 2 days he recommended; Dr. Asma Habib at 210 N. Sandhill, in Mesquite. We left the hospital at 4:30 p.m. and went to Wal-Mart to have Zola’s prescription filled and pick up the Actos medicine she tried to get yesterday. While at Wal-Mart waiting for the medicine we shopped for groceries and will come back again tomorrow after we decide what else we want before leaving for Quartzsite on Saturday. We arrived back at the trailer just before 6 p.m. and had dinner then watched the TV News, after watching TV for a while Zola went to bed and watched TV and Elliot used the computer for a while then watched TV.
Thursday 01/07/2010 – It is a nice weather day. In the afternoon we went to Smith’s Grocery and bought groceries, then stopped at the Virgin Valley Medical, 210 N. Sandhill Blvd. where Elliot made an appointment for follow-up on her toe Zola with Dr. Asma Habib. In the evening we went to the Casa Blanca for a little while.
Friday 01/08/2010 – At 10 a.m. Elliot went to the Gas Station and fueled the truck then to the library to connect to the Wi-Fi and use our lap top computer to check our accounts and e-mail. While I was gone Zola cleaned the kitchen floor. At 3:15 p.m. Zola went to the appointment Elliot had made for her with for her yesterday with Dr. Asma Habib at 210 N. Sandhill, in Mesquite for a follow-up on her toe. The toe is coming along but is still warm and swollen some. Zola should keep taking the Amoxicillin until it is all gone. We left the doctor’s office and went to the Virgin River Casino for a little while then went to Wal-Mart and bought a battery for Zola’s wrist watch and withdrew some money so we would have some cash while at Quartzsite, Arizona. We went to the Fuz Café at the Casa Blanca and had dinner and played the video games for a while and went back to the trailer for the night.
Saturday 01/09/2010 - We left the Oasis RV Park at 10:30 a.m. headed south on I-15 to Sam’s Town RV Park in Las Vegas, Nevada. The traveling was good and the weather was clear and warm. Leaving I-15 we took I-515 exiting at Flamingo Road going to Boulder Highway. We arrived at Sam’s Town RV Park at 12:10 p.m. and got a parking space for one night for $25.02. We set the trailer up in Site #1246 and had lunch in the trailer. We went to Wal-Mart and picked up a few groceries, and three birthday cards the went to a gas station and fueled the truck then went back to the trailer and had dinner, after which we went to Sam’s Town and played the video games for a little while then went back to the trailer for the night.

Sunday 01/10/2010 - Elliot got up showered and got the trailer ready to travel to Quartzsite, Arizona. We left Sam’s Town at 9:30 a.m. then got on I-515/US95 at Flamingo Rd. onramp heading south to Boulder City, Nevada junction to Searchlight, Nevada, Needles, California and on to Vidal Junction. We stopped there and Zola made us a sandwich and we ate in the trailer. We left US95 taking CA62 to Parker, Arizona and AZ95. We fueled the truck then continued on AZ95 to BLM LTVA La Posa South camp area 3 miles south of I-10 at Quartzsite, Arizona. The sky was clear and it was 70 dg. F. when we arrived at the entrance, where we stopped and registered for 14 days for $40.00, at the end of that period we will renew registration as we need. We drove about a mile into the LTVA where we have stayed the last couple year and they are doing some excavating there, so we picked a new spot. Elliot started to unhitch the trailer and luckily Zola ask if we had any water, he stopped and we went and filled the trailer holding tank, then went back where we set the trailer up, this year we are a little closer to the road but can still see if there are trailers lineup to use the dump station or get fresh water. We set up so the afternoon sun will be on the side of the trailer where the doors are; hoping we can set out there and enjoy the sun. Zola has a cold now too so we rested for a while, after I got the trailer set up, then we had dinner and watched one of the “Christy” video’s Zola received for Christmas, there are 6 episodes so we have five more to go. After the video Elliot turned off the generator and we went to be just after 10 p.m.
Monday 01/11, 2010 - The temperature last night went down to about 38 dg. F, this morning I got up and turned on the furnaces but the trailer batteries are too low on charge so it would not come on, they won’t hold a charge and it looks as though I need to replace them. I went out and started the generator and the furnace came on. After breakfast Zola stayed in the trailer to nurse her cold and I went the Auxiliary U.S Post Office to check my General Delivery mail and mail birthday cards to Brian Willes and Jennifer Lamb. They have not set up the General Delivery mail service at the Auxiliary U.S Post Office so I will have to go to the main Post Office. I went to the library to use their Wi-Fi to get our computer connected to the internet and check our accounts and entered EFT payment on our credit cards with Bank of America and Sinclair Oil. I checked the e-mail and Diana had forwarded Jonathan’s weekly e-mail form Tanzania, Africa. Jonathan also wrote on our Facebook that last week he had received the Christmas card we sent, so it took about a month to get there. Leaving the Library I went to the Post Office and checked General Delivery mail and I had received a package from the VA in Salt Lake with a new hearing aid for my left ear. It hadn’t been working and I left it with them to send to the manufacture so I don’t know it they repaired or replaced it. I went and filled our gas can for our generator and went back to the trailer. Zola was lying on the bed so I lay down and rested for a while then got up and went for a walk. Coming back to the trailer I stopped and met and visited with our neighbors for a while, I went to our trailer just as the sun was setting and Zola and I went to McDonalds in town and had a hamburger in the truck, Zola didn’t feel like going inside to eat. Back at the trailer we watched the 2nd & 3rd episodes of the video “Christy” then Zola went to bed to read.
Tuesday 01/12/2010 – Zola had a rough night from her cold/flu; coughing, aching, etc. It is another good weather day today with the sun is so bright Elliot lowered the trailer awning. At 11:30 I went to town to do laundry, they have a Hot Dog Internet Café with Free Wi-Fi but I didn’t bring our computer, however, while waiting for the cloths to dry I had a hot dog, chips and a drink for lunch. I arrived back at the trailer around 1:30 p.m., Zola still doesn’t feel well. I rested a little while then checked the oil in the generator and filled the gas tank. I refill the empty 1 pound propane bottles we use with our “Mr. Heater” and grill. The adapter I bought at Quartzsite a couple years ago has save a lot of money by being able to refill those bottles from a regular propane tank. In the evening we watched the 4th through 8th episodes of the video “Christy” then watched TV until 10 p.m. and needed to turn off the generator.
Wednesday 01/13/2010 – Last night we both had a far better sleeping night. I went to the library to use their Wi-Fi but it was not working so I went to the Laundromat and use their Wi-Fi to get our computer connected to the internet. Teri sent an e-mail saying she has forwarded my sugar test strips so I’ll check at the Post Office in a day or two for them. In the evening we watched the 9th through 13th episodes of the video “Christy.”
Thursday 01/14/2010 – By the time I showered this morning our water was empty and there was no lineup at the dump so I hooked up the trailer and went and emptied the holding tanks then refilled the fresh water tank, this is our first time since arriving on the 10th that we have needed to empty the tanks. We drove to Blythe, California and went to see where the LDS Church Building is, I had looked it up on Map Quest before we left home because two other time we had looked for it and didn’t find it, this time we did, we may have seen it earlier but didn’t recognize it because the architecture appears more Spanish than were are use to for LDS Church Buildings. We went to Albertsons and bought some groceries hen went back to our trailer. After dinner we watched then we watched the 14th through 16th episodes of the video “Christy.” Just after the 16th episode started the generator ran out of gas and it was also 10 p.m. and time to turn it off anyway so we finished the rest of it using the computer battery.
Friday 01/15/2010 – At 1:30 a.m. some Coyotes were out by our truck setting up a ruckus, not howling it sounded like they were have a dispute over a pray they had caught. At noon we went to town. We stopped at the Post Office but the sugar test strips Teri had forwarded had not yet arrive. From there we went to the Main Event area and looked through some of the vendor shops. We had an Angus Burger and Onion Rings at a food vendor, they were so busy, and under staffed, it took about an hour from when I ordered them. We looked around in a few more shops. When replacing our RV batteries yesterday I found one of the wiring terminal connector had been eaten by battery acid so I bought some to replace it. By then we gave out and went back to the trailer, normally we would last longer but I think our colds had tapped our energy. The well pump had broken they had a sign posted, “No Water,” we are lucky we still have water in the trailer tank. The Christy Ministerials are performing at the QIA Building tonight but Zola wasn’t interested so we stayed at the trailer for the night. After dinner we watched then we watched the 17th through 19th episodes of the video “Christy.” This completes the series but Zola has 3 more DVDs of the same video book and we watched one of them.
Saturday 01/16/2010 – We left the trailer at just after 10 a.m. to go to town. The traffic is back to the type normally around Quartzsite this time of the year with slow going and scarcity of places to park. We parked in the big wash by the Sell-a-Rama at Tyson Wells and spent until 1:30 p.m. looking around there; Zola bought her a couple new books and I bought some bungee cords, Velcro, 4 small magnets, 3 clamps, and a razor blade scraper. We got a hamburger and sat at a table with a couple from Spanish Fork, Utah. In the course of our visiting they said they too had been married in the Manti LDS Temple, I told them I had worked for the Spanish Fork Feed Mill hauling turkey feed, hay, etc. from Delta, Ogden, Segard, Utah at there turkey plant in Richfield, Utah. They knew the Carlson’s from Manti who owned the mill and was in the turkey business. They have a boy who is a Fireman in West Valley City, Utah where we live. They worked at the Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone, Montana last year and she was the one working the desk that had to tell me there was no available Parking and referred me to the Hideaway RV Park there. We looked around a little more at the Sell-a-Rama then went back to the trailer. Zola stayed at the trailer and I went to the Laundromat and use their Wi-Fi to work on the computer while I washed and dried two blankets and some clothing. Leaving there I filled the generator gas can and returned to the trailer at 4:30 p.m. In the evening we watched the last of the DVDs “Christy.”
Sunday 01/17/2010 – We got up to go to Church this morning but my right cheek was starting to swell up, it got pretty big then spread to the right side of my upper lip. I gave myself a injection of epheniphrien from an Epi-Pen, then about 20 minutes latter I gave me a second injection, this worked and stopped the swelling and even reduced it some but the shot makes me a little shaky for a while so it got to late to go to Church today. We stayed around the trailer all day and Zola read her book and I used my Palm Pilot to read Genesis 1 through 7 in the Old Testament. We sat outside for a while but got to warm and we came back inside. In the evening we watched the TV News then watched a DVD “Dynasty,” after which Zola read and I worked on my log. When I went to turn the generator off there was a light rain falling and did off and on during the night.
Monday 01/18/2010 – We left for town about 10:30 a.m. and it took about 45 minutes to make it the 3 miles to town; when we got to the highway at the entrance to the LTVA traffic was backed up, we got on the highway then idled the truck all the way except when traffic stopped off and on. This is the way it gets during the “Show” time at Quartzsite. We first went to McDonalds and had lunch then went to RV Lifestyle and bought some toilet paper and two new end caps for the sewer hose carrier that had disappeared along with our sewer hose on the way from home to Mesquite, Nevada, from there we went to the Big Tent and walked through the booth area where Zola bought her a new bag to roast potatoes in the microwave oven. We left the Big Tent around 3:30 p.m. and went back to the trailer. Elliot serviced the generator and refilled our empty 1 pound propane bottles and visited with the neighbors for a minute. About 5 p.m. the wind started up and became pretty strong for and hour or so, I had our awning out but I had it anchored good so it held up ok. After dinner we watched two DVD movies then turned the generator off and went to bed. There was a light rain when I turned the generator off and it continued for a little while after we got in bed.
Tuesday 01/19/2010 – The weather is pretty good this morning, there is no rain and the sun comes out through the clouds once and while. We started to leave for town at just before 11 a.m. and saw that people were getting water and we are down to about a gallon so we decided to empty the trailer holding tanks and fill the fresh water tank before going to town rather than when we came back. By the time we got the trailer set back up back in our spot it was noon so we had a sandwich before going to Tyson Wells and look around. Zola found some used books to read and traded in some she had read and brought with us from home, normally they let you have one book free for every two you trade in but the books she traded in were good books so she got seven for ten. Leaving the “show” we went to the Post Office but the hours for General Delivery mail is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it was 3:00 so we went to the grocery store and bought some milk, lettuce and cookies then went back to the trailer, our arrival at 3:30 p.m. was timely because just then it started a light rain; shortly the wind and rain begin increasing. We rested for a while then watched the TV News and had dinner later watching a DVD movie.
Wednesday 01/20/2010 – The sun is shinning and the sky is blue. I went to the Post Office and picked up the diabetic test strips the Teri had forwarded to me then went to the library to use their Wi-Fi but it wasn’t working so I went to the Laundromat to use theirs and could not get connected there either so I went and filled the generator gas can and back to the trailer. Zola had stayed at the trailer to clean it while I was gone. We had a sandwich and went to the Tyson Wells Show and looked around there and I bought two Key Chain Vile’ to carry consecrated oil in. We left Tyson Wells at 3 p.m. and went to the Laundromat to do laundry, the Wi-Fi there was working now but I had not brought our computer. At 4:30 p.m. we headed back to the trailer. We had dinner and watched the TV News, the big part of the week of storms is suppose to come in at 3 a.m. and last for 48 hours. We watched a DVD movie then watched TV for a while and went to bed.
Thursday 01/21/2010 – Today is supposed to be the heaviest storm day of the series of storms but it isn’t bad now. At 10 a.m. I went to the library to use our computer, this time I was able to get right on the internet. I had 47 e-mails, most of them advertisement or FW: and I deleted 35 of them, Diana had forwarded Jonathan’s weekly letter and I copied it and three other e-mails to a folder so Zola could read them when I get back to the trailer with no internet. I was able to do our accounting book keeping. I sent an e-mail to the family with a copy of the last few days of Travel Log and posted a photo on my Facebook. The wind had picked up while was in the library and a women came in and said they had closed the Big Tent. At 11:30 I left the library to go back to the trailer and it was raining, from what I could see from the road all of the “Shows” were closed. This afternoon the rain and wind really! picked up; rocking the trailer pretty good and putting down a lot of water. Things settled down and we had dinner and about 6 p.m. We watched a DVD movie and by 8:30 p.m. the wind started back up. We watched the 9 p.m. News and the whole state of Arizona is really being hit with this storm and there is a lot of snow in the northern part along I-40 and Flagstaff, rain is starting and melt the snow, Oak Creek is at 20 feet, this is the largest storm in Arizona since 1983 and the governor has released $2 million in emergency funds.
Friday 01/22/2010 – Weather through last night was a little windy but not bad. At around 10 a.m. Zola and I left the trailer for Blythe, California; arriving there we stopped at Kmart and bought some Diet Pepsi, a package of cup cakes, and some medicine and Q-tips. We stopped at Albertsons and bought groceries then left for Quartzsite where we stopped at McDonalds and had a hamburger then fueled the truck for the first time since in Parker, Arizona. We arrived at the trailer around 2 p.m. unloaded the groceries and I refilled our 1 pound propane bottles. I called Teri to see if my VA medicine bill had come in the mail yet but she said she hadn’t seen it. In the evening we watched a DVD movie then went to bed.
Saturday 01/23/2010 – The weather is good this morning and I went to the library but it wasn’t open, since last year they apparently decided not to open Saturdays. I went to the Laundromat and got their Wi-Fi and checked our e-mail and accounts returning to the trailer at 11:30. We went to McDonalds and had a salad for lunch, there to big for us, next time we’ll get one and share it. Leaving there we went to the Main Event and looked around, I bought a set of Allen Wrenches and another set of hole punches, then we had an ice cream cone. We mailed a Valentine Card to Jonathan in Africa. Zola felt she needed to go to the trailer so we did. I called Bruce Bown and talked to him for a while, he is in the same spot he was last year, Duane Buchannan’s brothers Wally and Gene have their trailers by Bruce but Duane had not got here yet, Gene said he was having some health problems and had been in Salt Lake City for test, Gene said Duane is coming but was going to take his time getting here. In the evening we watched another DVD movie, a little explanation on the movies, I bought a “pack” of 20 movies at Wal-Mart before we left home so there aren’t any Oscar Winning movies among them.
Sunday 01/24/2010 – The humidity is so high from all the rain we had and the temperature 31 dg. F that there was frost and so much dew it seemed it had rained. We went to the 9 – 12:00 a.m. Block of Church Meetings; Priesthood/Relief Society Lesson was #1 in Gospel Principals, Sunday School was Lesson #4 and High Counsel Speakers in Sacrament Meeting. At Sacrament meeting every seat was filled, I’d guess over 800 people, the 1 p.m. Block will be quite a bit smaller. On the way back to the trailer we stopped at the South La Posa Entrance and paid for the next 14 days, it hard to think that we have already been here for 14 days. We had lunch and about 2:30 we took the trailer to the dump station and emptied the holding tanks then filled the fresh water tank.
It had warmed up to 63 dg. F. At 4:30 we went to McDonalds and had a Cheeseburger and an ice cream Sunday. We drove out through the north east corner of town then back to the trailer just as the sun was setting. We watched 60 Minutes on TV then a DVD movie.
Monday 01/25/2010 – We stayed around the trailer this morning and I visited outside with the neighbors for a while
then we had lunch and drove to the Main Event West and looked around there until 4 p.m. The vendors there are starting to close there booths to leave tomorrow, they just travel the country from show to show hawking their wares. On the way to the trailer we stopped at the Big Market and bought a loaf of bread then went back to the trailer and sat outside enjoying the sun. When Zola went in the trailer I refilled the empty 1 pound propane bottles. After dinner we watched the News then watched a DVD movie then watched TV until 10 p.m. then went to bed.
Tuesday 01/26/2010 – At 9:30 I went to the library and sent an e-mail to the family and checked our accounts, and received an e-mail Diana; she had forwarded Jonathan’s weekly letter he sent to them. Leaving there at 11:00 I went to the Post Office and stood in line for 30 minutes to check my general delivery mail where I received my bill for my medicine from the VA, I had Teri checking to forward it to me from home but the VA picked up my temporary address at Quartzsite and sent it directly here, I wasn’t sure they would do that but it worked out well that they did and when I got back to the trailer I was able to make out a check to mail it to them, leaving the Post Office I went to Pilot Travel Center and filled our generator gas can then went back to the trailer. We had lunch then went to Rice Ranch and looked through the vender booths at 2:45. Leaving Rice Ranch we went to McDonalds and had dinner then stopped at bought some milk and went to the trailer arriving at 5:30. We watched the TV News the watched a DVD movie.
Wednesday 01/27/2010 – We went to do laundry in the morning and I took our computer and Zola took her book to work with and read while the clothes were washing and drying. It was 11:30 when we got back to the trailer and had a sandwich. While in line to empty their trailer holding tanks a couple from Canada’s truck starter gave out, they called a tow truck from Blythe, California to come get the truck and install another starter, I talked with them for a while then Zola and I went to the Craft and Gem show at the Big Tent, we looked around there and Zola bought her a Silk Skin Hair Remover System, there were a few cars there advertizing the Car Show starting on Saturday. There is a 1948 Allis-Chalmers tractor there and I talked for a while with the man that restored it, it is a different tractor than I had ever seen, it was used primarily to harrow and furrow fields.Leaving town we went back to the trailer. We had dinner and watched TV and at 7 p.m. watched President Obama deliver his State of The Union Address.
Thursday 01/28/2010 – We had our showers then I serviced the generator and started it so Zola could heat her curling iron while I took the empty propane tank and our barbeque propane tank I use to refill our 1 pound propane bottles to the RV Pit-Stop and had them filled, the trail tank took 7 gal., the other one 5.3 gal. of propane. Propane is $2.55/gallon. On the way back to the trailer I stopped at La Posa North LTVA and visited with Bruce & Meryl Dean and Duane & Lavon Buchanan, Buchanan’s arrived Monday. The test he had in Salt Lake City showed that he has Parkinson’s disease. I ask if they was going to work at Fish Lake this summer and they said no, they was going to stop working and take time to do things they want while they can. I got back to the trailer at noon and turned the generator off and reinstalled the propane tank and we had lunch. I was outside and Mark and Ann Nielson’s from Ogden, Utah we had met here a couple years ago stopped by in there four wheeler and Zola came out, they said that their Mission at Temple Square will end in June. We visited a while and Zola let Ann borrow three books she had read. At 2:20 we went to Tyson Wells and Zola traded some of her books for five more. We looked around there and Zola bought some tomatoes and I bought two small saws for my dermal tool at home then stopped at the grocery store and bought some bread before returning to the trailer. We had dinner and I started so we could watch TV and a DVD movie.
Friday 01/29/2010 - At 10:30 I went to the library and checked our e-mail and checked our accounts then went to the Post Office and check the general delivery mail but we didn’t have any. Back at the trailer we took the trailer to the dump station and emptied the holding tanks then filled the fresh water tank. I put the trailer awning out and we sat
outside until 4:45 when we went to McDonalds and had dinner then drove out the I-10 frontage road out by the BLM Scanddan wash camping area, when we turned around to go to the trailer the Full Wolf Moon just started to rise up from behind the mountains east of Quartzsite, it would have made a great picture but I had not brought our camera with use, we arrived back at the trailer at 6:30 p.m. and watched the News then a DVD movie.
Saturday 01/30/2010 – At 9:30 we went to the Classic Car Show at the Big Tent.
There were a few vendor booths in the center but we had seen them on Wednesday. We went to McDonalds and had lunch then drove out Moon Mountain Avenue past the Senior Citizen Center then and to highway 95 and back to the trailer. At the trailer I visited with our neighbor Kirt from Minnesota then later Zola and I went for a drive heading east, the paved road ends about a half mile from our trailer, we drove (rout BLM 419) past the end of the camping area into the desert area for about 45 minutes, I wanted to see if that road continued to the mountain then to Scanddan Wash but it didn’t, it swings around and comes back ending up at La Posa South again after about one and a half hours driving. I wanted to go back where we the Full Wolf Moon rise over the mountain last night and take some pictures of it tonight so at 4:30 we drove to town and out through Scanddan Wash to then end of the pavement and the road I had wanted to come to on our earlier drive. Where the dirt road starts we drove off the road toward the mountain. We walked around through the area kicking rocks and looking at the area;
last night the moon came up at about 5:30, Zola took a picture of me down in a wash, the sun started to set and I took some pictures of that while we waited until 6:20 and the moon still had not come up so we went back to the trailer, at 7:00 it still wasn’t up. We had dinner and watched the Hallmark Hall movie then read until 10 p.m. and went to bed.
Sunday 01/31/2010 - We went to the 9 – 12:00 a.m. Block of Church Meetings in Sacrament Meeting. At Sacrament meeting attendance was down to about 500 people, a lot of people have moved on to Yuma, Tucson, or other points since most of the Quartzsite Shows have close. Duane and Viola was at Church and we visited with them, Duane’ brother Gene and the Nielson’s for a minute. Viola said they were going to move their trailer from the BLM to Quail Run RV Park for full hookups some time this week. We went back to the trailer and had lunch then watched the Old Testament Sunday School study video Disc #1. At 4:30 we went to town for milk and went to McDonalds and had dinner then came back to the trailer. At 7 p.m. we watched a DVD movie.
Monday 01/01/2010 – We drove to Parker, Arizona and went to their brand new Wal-Mart to get Zola a one of her prescriptions refill. She dropped it off at the pharmacy at 11 a.m. and they told her it would be ready at 2:30. We spent $75 and then went to McDonalds and had lunch then washed the truck and filled the generator gas can and went to back to Wal-Mart and spent another $73 and the $4 for her medicine and went back to Quartzsite. It sounds bad but actually it worked out well. One of the items I bought was 4 solar lights so I planted them by the trailer. We bought some $5 movies at Wal-Mart so we watched one of them and went to bed.
Tuesday 02/02/2010 – I went to the library to get on the internet and check our e-mail and access our accounts to reconcile our income and expense for January. Mark and Mary Ann Nielson from Ogden, Utah had been park 100 feet from us left to move to a full hookup RV Park, before they left Mary Ann came to the trailer and visited and Zola gave her some of the books she had read. Later in the day we went to town and done laundry. We watched one of the movies we had bought at Wal-Mart and went to bed.
Wednesday 02/03/2010 – At noon we went to town and checked the mail, there wasn’t any, the one Teri forwarded must have went back to the sender. Effective February 8th the Post Office is changing General Delivery mail pick up to the east annex on Plymouth Avenue. We went to McDonalds and had lunch then went across the street to the Main Event. I bought three small figures to out in the flower garden at home; a Fishing Frog, a Girl w/a Dog, and a Boy w/a Dog and a black leather belt for $4. Zola bought a VHS movie for $1. We left the Main Event at 3:30 and went back to the trailer. I sat outside and read the local newspaper. We had dinner and watched a TV Show and then a DVD movie the News then went to bed.
Thursday 02/04/2010 – This morning we emptied the holding tanks in the trailer and refilled the fresh water tank. We had dinner in the trailer then went to Tyson Wells and looked around through the vendor booths; One of the vendors saw my hat with Air Force Veteran on, shook my hand and thanked me for my service then gave me an Air Force Key Chain. I bought a new $5 pair of work gloves, 5 new tea spoons, and a pan I could use to drain oil in when I changed oil in the generator. We bought a small bag of Kettle Corn to eat during the movie tonight. From Tyson Wells we went to the grocery store and bought milk and a Bears Claw Roll then went back to the trailer. I changed the oil in the generator and put the old oil in an empty oil bottle I had saved for this, now I have to find a place to get rid of the used oil, all 20 ounces, the little guy on my shoulder is working on me not to put it in the dumpster. I think today has been the warmest day we’ve had, I am not sure but it must be in the mid 70’s.
Friday 02/05/2010 – There is a Collector/Antiques (Junk) vendor next to the Road Runner Market that has everything a good city dump would have and we spent some time there ooohing and awing. Our truck is having what seems to be a fuel problem so we went to the auto parts and I put a can of fuel additive in the gas tank. Then we went to Joan's Crafts and bought a pack of small super magnets, a small decorative bird for Zola’s bird house in our kitchen at home and some stickers and returned to the trailer. We sat outside and our neighbors came over and visited, they have been rock hounding and had bought a saw and showed us some of the slabs they had cut from rocks they had picked up; it is interesting the colors and designs inside a rock. We watched the TV News and had dinner then watched a DVD movie and went to bed.
Saturday 02/06/2010 – Today is the “Utah” pot-luck luncheon at the senior center. I thought we were going to it but it was at 11:30 and I thought it was dinner in the evening, anyway, we didn’t go. It started to rain around 3:30 and was still raining at 5 O’clock when we went to the Taco Mio Restaurant and had enchiladas for dinner, when we got back to the trailer the rain had stopped. We watched the 6:30 TV News then watched a DVD movie and went to bed.
Sunday 02/07/2010 – We went to Church and the number in attendance is still dropping as RV’er leave for other places but the Branch will still need two session because they can’t accommodate the number still coming. Next week is Stake Conference and it will be held in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Teleconferenced to Blythe, California, where the Blythe & Quartzsite people will attend, in the past they have driven to Lake Havasu. Returning from Church we stopped at the LTVA Gate and paid $40 for another 14 days camping. We returned to the trailer and had lunch then watched parts on the Old Testament lesson study DVD. Zola made some macaroni & tomato goulash we can have for a couple meals. I refilled our one pound propane bottles we use for our “Mr. Heater” form our barbeque propane tank.
Monday 02/08/2010 – At 11:30 we went to town and done laundry; once the clothes were in the washer we had a hot dog at their little hot dog internet cafe and used our computer and their Wi-Fi to get on the internet. After finishing the laundry we went to the post office annex to check the mail but was 30 minutes late getting there because there is only someone at the annex for general deliver mail from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We stopped at Bealls Outlet store and Zola bought her a blouse and two balls to use in the dry to dry clothes and soften them. Back at the trailer I went to La Posa North LTVA where Bruce and Duane’s trailers are and visited with them for and hour then went back to our trailer. We had dinner and watched a DVD movie.
Sunday 03/07/2010 – We prepared the trailer to travel then went to empty the holding tanks and then left La Posa South LTVA at 8:55 a.m. headed for Sam’s Town RV Park in Las Vegas, Nevada. We stopped in Parker, Arizona and topped off the truck fuel tank and Needles, California for a rest stop and again in Searchlight, Nevada at McDonalds where we had a sandwich. We arrived at Sam’s Town RV Park at 1:45 p.m. and registered for two nights and set the trailer up in Site #1223. After resting for a while we walked to Sam’s Town and played video games for an hour then back to the trailer and had dinner. We left the trailer around 8:30 a.m. and drove to Parker, Arizona to have Bradley Chevrolet check the fuel problem we were having with our truck. Arriving there at 9:30 at 10:30 they got it in the shop and replaced the Fuel Pump, In-line Fuel Filter and Fuel Screen, for 603.84, $406.56 of which was labor (they had to drop the drive line and gas tank to get at the fuel pump. They gave us a ride to McDonalds where we had lunch and walked across the road to Wal-Mart and looked around, I call them at 1:45 p.m. and had them come pick me up, Zola stayed at Wal-Mart to do our grocery shopping. When I got back to Bradley’s the mechanic was just pulling out in our truck to road test it, when he got back I paid the bill and left there at 2:30 and went to Wal-Mart and got Zola and the groceries and we went back to our trailer at Quartzsite and unloaded the groceries and I hooked up to the trailer and went to empty the holding tanks and refill the fresh water tank, after setting the trailer back up I serviced the generator and it was 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. we had dinner then watched a DVD movie. It has been a rather busy day.
Wednesday 02/10/2010 – It is suppose to rain today but its good weather this morning. I went to the library and used our computer, then went to the post office and there were two letters Teri had forwarded to me; our Bank of America statement and coupons for 4 Free Nights in February and March at the RV Park in Mesquite, Nevada so that will help on our way home. From the post office I went to the barber shop and had my hair cut, last year I went to him and had it “shortened up” and it lasted me nearly three months, today I had a “light trim” and it is just right. As I passed La Posa North LTVA on the way to our trailer I could see that all three of the Buchanan’s trailers were gone but Bruce Bown’s is still there. We had lunch and stayed around the trailer, and then at about 4 p.m. we went for a walk. While we were walking we could see dark clouds in the north east so we only walked about one mile and just as we got back to the trailer it started to sprinkle rain, and slowly increased until we had a good little rain with some thunder and lightning until about 7 p.m. We had dinner then watched two Hopalong Cassidy Cowboy movies.
Thursday 02/11/2010 – The weather is good and the sky is clear this morning. We saw Bruce Bown go bye on his way to the dump station near us, people at the La Posa North LTVA don’t have a dump station or fresh water so they have to come here, go some place else, or, have a pumping service empty their holding tanks for around $20. At 11 a.m. Zola and I went to McDonalds and had lunch then went to the library and barrowed some movies (I’ve had a library card for several years.) From there we went to “Addicted to Deals” and looked around and Zola bought something to use with her card making, for the first time I tried an ATM other than those at America First Credit Union, I’ve been reluctant to use them afraid they would capture my AFCU Visa Card or rob me; AFCU says I can use a Cirrus ATM with out a fee but the ATM told me it would cost me $2.75 and when it printed my receipt it added that to my withdrawal from AFCU so the next time I am on the internet I’ll see how that all played out in the end. We walked around in a couple of the Main Even vendors shops then went to the gas station and fueled the truck and refilled the generator gas can. Last year we went to the QIA fund raising dinner and enjoyed it and plan to go tomorrow night so we drover to the QIA office to get tickets but it was closed so we’ll do what we did last year and pay when we get to the dinner. We arrived back at the trailer at 4 p.m.
Friday 02/12/2010 – I went to the library to use our computer, I checked our AFCU account and now I know more about withdrawing cash from a non-AFCU ATM; the amount probably varies with the mount withdrawn but for yesterdays withdrawal the ATM charged $2.75 and the credit union charged us $1.50 so it cost $4.25. I checked our other accounts and the e-mail, and Facebook then went back to the trailer. Zola’s cousin John Hall is in Quartzsite and has been trying to call her and left a voice mail so she had me call him, he wasn’t there so I left him a voice mail and he call back in about an hour. We will meet him for lunch tomorrow at McDonalds. We stayed around the trailer until 4:30 then went to the annual QIA fund raising dinner at 5 p.m., for a $5.00 donation each, it was a really good meal. Going back to the trailer we stopped at the grocery store and bought some milk arriving at the trailer at 6:30 then watched the TV News and a movie we had barrowed from the library yesterday.
Saturday 02/13/2010 – It’s Teri’s birthday today. The weather is good this morning. I refilled 6 of the one pound propane bottles we use in our “Mr. Heater.” We went to McDonalds and met Zola’s cousin John Hall for lunch at 12 noon and visited with him there until 1:30. He has been living in his trailer at the Holiday Palms RV Park on Main Street since New Years Eve and plans to be there until April. After saying goodbye to John we went to Tyson Wells and looked around and had an ice cream cone then walked to Rice Ranch for a while and went back to the trailer at 4 p.m. and it to empty the holding tanks and refill the fresh water tank. Zola called Teri to wish her happy birthday but no one was home so she left a message and would try to call her tomorrow. After setting the trailer up again we had dinner then watched a movie we had barrowed from the library.
Sunday 02/14/2010 – Today is Valentines Day. At 9 a.m. we left the trailer for at Blythe, California at 10 a.m. (AZ time) for the Lake Havasu Arizona Stake Conference. For the first time they are holding Conference in Lake Havasu City and teleconferencing all of the sessions to the Blythe building for the Quartzsite Branch and the Blythe Ward. I estimate there were 400 people attending in Blythe. After conference we went back to the trailer at Quartzsite arriving at 1 p.m. and had lunch then rested. Zola called Teri and talked to her, she said that our neighbor Gary & Kathy Rosenkrantz’s son Ryan had been in a bad sand dune buggy accident in California and was in the hospital in San Diageo and Gary and Kathy have flown down there. Zola called Diana and talked to her. Then at 4:30 we went for a walk, returning to the trailer I called and talked to Cathy, David was at the store. We ate dinner then watched the last of the movies we had borrowed from the library.
Monday 02/15/2010 – Presidents Day - We went to the Laundromat and washed clothes and I used our computer to get on the internet using their Wi-Fi. Leaving the Laundromat we went to McDonalds and had a hamburger then went back to the trailer, we rested a while then Zola ironed cloths, and I cleaned the bathroom. Just before 5 p.m. we went for a walk getting back to the trailer at 5:45 and had dinner then watched a double feature movie with John Wayne “Hell Town” and “Man from Utah.”
Tuesday 02/16/2010 – We left the trailer at 9:30 a.m. driving to Yuma for the day. Arriving at Yuma we went to Wal-Mart on Pacific Ave. and had lunch at McDonalds there then left to drive around and find the Swap Meet by the Airport, when we found it, it is only open on Thursdays and Friday. We stopped at the Wal-Mart on 3 ½ Avenue and Airport Rd. and bought a 6’x15’ piece of sun screen fabric to use on our trailer, it will drop down from the awning to make a shade screen. We bought a Tracfone Calling Card, some other items and some groceries then fueled the truck and refilled the generator gas can and returned to our trailer at Quartzsite arriving at 4:15 p.m.
Wednesday 02/17/2010 – We went to town for Zola’s hair cut appointment at 10 a.m. then went to the library to return the movies we barrowed last week and check out four more, this time they needed a $20 deposit, they are not very consistent on their deposit policy. We stopped at the post office annex and I had two packages from the VA with one prescription of medicine in each. Back at the trailer we had lunch then at 1 p.m. I started the generator so Zola could curl her hair, I went to the Laundromat to use our computer and Zola stayed at the trailer to steam mop the floor while I was gone. We had and e-mail from David and I sent our family an update of our travel log. Returning to the trailer I installed 5 grommets in the sun screen fabric so I could hang it form the trailer awning roller tube. We had dinner and watched a VHS movie, then the 9 p.m. TV News.
Thursday 02/18/2010 – I wanted some clamps and shorter bungee cords to anchor the shad screen I had put on the awning yesterday so we went to town and bought them and some soap pellets for washing cloth, we had just bought some soap in Yuma but we’ll use that at home, the pellets are much easer to work with when we are in the trailer but hard to find in the stores. We looked around here at Tyson Wells then went to McDonalds and had lunch then back to the trailer where I used the clamps and bungee cords to anchor our shade screen. We stayed at the trailer the rest of the day, I saw Bruce Bown go by after getting water for his trailer, they were on there way back from Yuma to their parking place in La Posa North. At 6 p.m. we had dinner and then watched a VHS movie.
Friday 02/19/2010 – We went to the Laundromat to wash cloths. Where we had a hot dog drink and for lunch in their internet Café and I used our computer to get on the internet and Zola read in her book while the laundry was being done. When we arrived back at the trailer I hooked up the truck and took the trailer to empty the holding tanks and refill the fresh water tank. We stayed around the trailer the rest of the afternoon then went to town and had dinner at the Best Mexican Restaurant then came back to the trailer and watched a VHS movie.
Saturday 02/20/2010 – We went for a drive stopping at JJ’s RV Parts to get a new backing plate for the screen door but they didn’t have what we wanted so we went Lifetime RV and they didn’t either but I bought a Extension Rod Kit so I don’t have to reach so far under the trailer to open the gray water drain valve. Form there we drove west on Dome Road and out to Rainbow Acers RV Village; people own individual lots they build on, park their trailers or what ever, it’s a nice clean place. I drove up a gravel wash for quite a ways and about 50 feet from where I could get back on a dirt road the wash narrowed up such that a four wheeler could go through the last little ways but my truck couldn’t so I backed up and turned around to go back where we started following the wash and again about 100 feet from getting back on the road I should have left the wash and went up on a ridge but I continued down the wash and about 50 feet from the road the wash was not passable, and for the last 100 feet I had traveled there had been a slight change in the wash bottom grade so as I backed up the sight increase in grade the gravel/dirt/sand was soft and within about 3 truck lengths because of the grade and soft base the truck dug in and I was stuck, I worked at it but it just got worse the more base I disturbed. I was behind a man’s lot and he came out and went to get a friend so he could help me, both men were in their 80’s, and by then I had got my shovel out of the truck and dug the gravel from in front and behind the wheels, it took a couple time doing that but I got back to a more solid base, and the man let me go up the bank and through his lot to a road. We left the village and went back to town, refilled our generator gas can and bought some milk then went back to the trailer. The wind was blowing so I rolled up our awning. Our first trailer propane bottle was empty and I refilled it on January 28th so I checked the propane and the second bottle was now empty so I’ll get it filled Monday. By now it was 6 p.m. so we had dinner then watched a VHS movie.
Sunday 02/21/2010 – We went to Church this morning, they usually change to a single session of church after Stake Conference but had extended it through this Sunday but more people are staying at Quartzsite longer this year so they announced they would stay on two sessions another week, there were 391 people at this morning session and I don’t know how many come to the afternoon session. We talked to Mark and Anne Nielson after church, they will be leaving Quartzsite for home on March 8th, on the way back to our trailer we stopped at the entrance to the BLM LTVA and paid for another two weeks, so we’ll be starting back home on March 7th. Back at the trailer we had lunch and stayed around the trailer, then at 3:30 I drove to Bruce and Meryl Dean’s trailer and visited with them for about and hour, they had traded the trailer they bought here last year on different trailer, this one is about the same size as the other one, and also has a slide out it is roomy inside so it works well for Meryl Dean to get around in. At our trailer Zola called Diana but she was having a nap and she talked to Kevin, she also called Teri, and Janet. When I got back to the trailer we had dinner, later Diana call and I talked to her a while then we watched a DVD movie.
Monday 02/22/2010 – We took one propane bottle from the trailer and the one I use to fill our one pound propane bottles and had them refilled at the RV Pit Stop for $2.55/gal. and then we went to the library to return the movies we had browed and get four more, and to use our computer but the internet is down so we left there stopping at the post office to check the mail but there was none. It was after 12 noon so we went to Burger King and Zola had a Lime Fish Sandwich and I had a Whopper. We went back to the trailer where I remounted the trailer propane tank so that should last us until after we get home. It was raining and the wind blowing when we got up this morning but the rain stopped about 9 a.m., however, the wind is still blowing. We had dinner and watched a movie then the TV News.
Tuesday 01/23/2010 – I went to the library and got on the internet to check our accounts and e-mail; Diana had e-mailed last week and this week’s letter from Jonathan. Charlene sent an e-mail saying that the doctor had found gangrene starting so her gallbladder surgery had taken 3 hours rather than much less time expected, Kerrie sent one about needing to call and have a block of solicitor calls for our cell phone so when I got back to the trailer I did that, Glenn had sent a picture of Mike Christensen and a Amanda together when Mike came back from his LDS Mission and Carmen Southern stent Zola her visiting teacher message. Leaving the library I stopped at the post office to check the mail but there was none. While I was gone Zola called Teri and talked to her. I got back to the trailer just before noon and Zola made us a sandwich for lunch. At 2:30 we went to town and stopped at Herb’s Hardware to see if I could find a part but couldn’t find one, I bought a magnetic screen door latch and some super glue and we went and had a hot fudge ice cream Sunday then went to the Main Event and looked around there until about 4:30 then went back to the trailer. After dinner we watched a VHS movie. Elliot called Garth & Lola and talked to them.
Wednesday 02/24/2010 – We drove to Parker, Arizona and drove around town then bought some stamps at the post office and went to Wal-Mart and shopped there then went and had lunch fueled the truck and drove back to the trailer in Quartzsite. I hooked up the trailer and took it to empty the holding tanks a refill the fresh water tank then went back and set it up again, I filled the generator with gas and the empty one pound propane bottles. Zola put the groceries away and made birthday cards for Diana and Jamie so we could send them tomorrow. The weather has been good today. We had dinner then watched a VHS movie.
Thursday 02/25/2010 – We went to town and done the laundry then went to McDonalds and had Chicken Strips for lunch then went to Bealls Outlet and Zola bought her a couple blouses while I walked to the Dollar Store and bought a rug for the trailer, leaving Bealls Outlet we stopped at K&K Tool at Tyson Wells and I looked for a coupler nut for a tie rod but could not find one. We went back to the trailer a 3 p.m. Gordon called and talked to 25 minutes. I added 4 more grommets to the sun screen; I had already installed 5 but decided it needed to be held a little closer to the awning roller tube. We had dinner and watched the News then watched a VHS movie.
Friday 02/26/2010 – At 9:30 we went to the library to return the four movies and two books we had borrowed and get four more movies and books, and to use the internet. We had one e-mail from Diana and some junk e-mail. Leaving the library at 10:30 it was to early for general delivery mail so we went to Rice Ranch and I bought some parts to use on the trailer and a couple butterfly decorations for our flower garden at home, by then it was after 11:00 so we went to the post office to check the mail, I should have received a bill from the VA for my medicine but it hasn’t come yet. We went back to the trailer and had a sandwich then Zola read in her book and I put the new door handle I had bought on the screen door and as usual nearly everything I buy needs modification to work. We sat outside but it was pretty warm to stay very long and Zola went in the trailer. I checked on what I need to do to put the extension on our Gray Water drain valve, I have the kit but again, nearly everything I buy needs modification to work the way I want it to so I’ll have to figure out if I can do it here with the limited tools I brought. In the evening my sweetheart and I went out for a date night dinner we went to Sweet Darlene’s Restaurant, the restaurant looks like a cultural hall setup for a ward dinner, without the Emcee, there were people and tables end-to-end filling the place, it’s a pretty popular place, you go in set down at a table and a waitress takes your order, Friday nights are easy, it’s fish night, you can order fish & chips with options; baked potato, French fries, or potato salad, water or soda. We ordered Fish & Baked Potato and Diet Pepsi, the dinner also included, tarter sauce, cold slaw, sour cream, butter and swirl bread. It was quite good and you got to visit with your neighbors, with in hearing distance, one of our neighbors was from Orem and one from St. George. Leaving there we went to a trailer movie.
Saturday 02/27/2010 – We stayed around the trailer until afternoon then drove to La Paz Valley, which is about four or five miles and rode around so see what was there, a couple years ago we was going there to a Jam Session, when Bruce Bown was singing there but we didn’t make it. We had to go back to the trailer for a rest stop then we went to town and bought some gas for our generator and looked around at Tyson Wells for a few minutes and came back to the trailer. I wasn’t pleased with the new screen door handle I had installed yesterday so earlier today I had repaired our old one. I removed the new one and reinstalled the one I had repaired. Zola rested and read her book. We had dinner and watched a movie.
Sunday 02/28/2010 – We went to church this morning and this will be the last time because we will be leaving here next Sunday morning. Between Relief Society and Sunday School we talked to the Nielson lady from Logan, they are leaving for Richfield, Utah in the morning to visit their daughter on there way home. We talked to the Wingets from Roy, Utah, he is from Monroe and she was a Pendleton from Richfield, I was in School with her younger brother Sylvester. Between Sunday School and Sacrament Meeting we saw Duane and Viola Buchanan come in so apparently they made it back from their stay at the military base at the Army Proving Grounds by Yuma, as a retired military he can stay with hook ups at the RV Parking area free if there is space. After church we went to the trailer and had lunch then watched the last episode of a movie of a 3 part show we barrowed from the library, tonight we’ll watch the other movie we barrowed and return them tomorrow. Zola rested and I walked to the neighbor from Minnesota and talked to him; the rocking horse he is making for his granddaughter is coming along good but still has a ways to go to finish it. Zola was talking to Diana when I got back to the trailer so I got to talk to her, it is her birthday tomorrow. Zola talked to Teri earlier, later. I walked over to Thereon and Debbie’s RV and talked to them and at 6 p.m. I went back to our trailer and we had dinner then watched the movie. I called Janet and Kerrie and talked to them. After the rain last night the weather today was good, the sun shining, blue skies and we had the trailer door open.
Monday 03/01/2010 – Today is Diana’s birthday – I went to the library and returned the 4 movies we had barrowed last week and barrowed 4 more today. I got on the internet to check our accounts for month ending February so I could balance our records. I checked the e-mail and I guess Jonathan is to busy moving to another apartment to send an e-mail because we didn’t get one forwarded from Diana. While I was gone Zola cleaned the trailer, she made us a sandwich then we drove to Parker, Arizona and grocery shopped, and I bought 2 new DVD movies then drove back to our trailer at Quartzsite. It was pretty warm on the side of our trailer so at 4 p.m. I put out the awning and the sun screen. At 6:30 we had dinner then watched a VHS movie about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates from their collage days and their rise in the computer world and financial world.
Tuesday 03/02/2010 – Zola’s cousin John Hall called and Zola invited him out to eat tomorrow. At 12:30 we went to town and Zola exchanged one of the blouses she had bought at Bealls Outlet for a different one then we went to the post office and mailed a change of address card to have any mail sent to me at Quartzsite General Delivery forwarded to our home address effective March 5, 2010. Leaving the post office we went to McDonalds and had lunch then went looking for a couple things I wanted for the trailer but didn’t find any. We went back to the trailer and sat outside, it was comfortable with the awning out and the sun screen attached. I tried to work on the computer but there was too much light and hard to see the curser so Zola went in the trailer to lie down and I came inside to work on the computer. Later we had dinner and watched the News then a VHS movie.
Wednesday 03/03/2010 – Today is Jamie’s birthday – This morning we took the trailer to empty the holding tanks and refill the fresh water tank, then set the trailer back up in the same parking place. I wanted to use a pay phone to call the VA and cancel my temporary Quartzsite mail address and it usually takes several minutes to get to the VA party you want because I usually get the message that they are on the phone helping others so please stay on the line which would use up a lot of minutes on our cell phone so I went to where there was a pay phone but they have removed it so I’ll have to use one in town tomorrow. At 3:30 John Hall came to our trailer and he, Zola and I sat outside and visited until about 5:00 then Zola went in and prepared food for tacos, and a fruit dish and we ate in the trailer. After then John left. We watched the TV News then a DVD movie. I called Jamie and wished her a happy birthday.
Thursday 03/04/2010 – We went to town and done laundry and got on the internet, Diana had forwarded an e-mail from Jonathan; he was being transferred, flying out the next morning from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Nairobi, Kenya, Yaya. In his new district there are 6 Missionaries, and 4 of them are sister missionaries. His new companion is named Elder Balyejusa from Uganda. I made reservation on the internet for two nights at Sam’s Town RV Park in Las Vegas for Sunday March 7 and 8th. Leaving the Laundromat we went to McDonalds and had a hot fudge sunday then went back to the trailer. Our neighbor Thereon stopped by the trailer and brought and empty one pound propane bottle I can refill and use in our space heater. Thereon knew I was looking for a new awning for my trailer and hailed down a technician driving bye that I wanted to talk to about one. The technician (Steve) came to my trailer and told me they could install a new awning fabric that would fit my Faulkner Awning hardware for $349 plus tax but it would take him two days to get one and it would be Tuesday before he would be available to install it, since we are leaving Sunday this presents a problem, I ask for his business card and maybe I can get it next year, hopefully my repair job will get me by until then: Shade Pro Mobile RV Awning Service phone 800-328-5100, www.shadepro.net. At 5:30 Zola and I went to the Mountain Quail Restaurant and had dinner then came back to the trailer and watched a library DVD movie.
Friday 03/05/2010 - I went to the library and returned the books and movies we had barrowed and picked up my $20 deposit I’ve had with the library. I used the pay phone to call the VA and cancel my temporary mailing address with them. The Library’s Wi-Fi was not working so I went to the Laundromat and used theirs to get on the internet. At 11 a.m. I went to the post office to check the mail and had a package of three prescription medicines from the VA, I was relieved that the medicine arrived since this is the last day I can check the mail before we leave Quartzsite. I went back to the trailer, arriving at 11:30. Later we went to Gambler RV Parts at Rice Ranch and looked around then went to Tyson Wells where I bought an Arbor to see if I can use it in installing the extension I want to at to the trailer tank drain valve handle, and Zola bought her a blouse; from there we went to the grocery store and bought milk and ice cream and cup cakes and then went back to the trailer. We went for a walk and in the evening we watched a DVD movie.
Saturday 03/06/2010 – I started to get ready to leave in the morning because it is suppose to rain and I didn’t want a lot of wet thing packed away so I got the truck prepares so I can load the generator in the morning; I took the carpet up, took down the shade screen and put them away and rolled in the awning because the wind was getting pretty gusty. Zola had her shower and curled her hair. At 12:30 we went to McDonalds for the final time and had lunch then went to Addicted on Deals looking for Zola a couple books she could read, I bought a VHS movie they didn’t have any books so we went to a vendor by the post office, Zola found two books and I bought a book on WWII Army Air Force and the aircraft. We went back to the trailer at 3:30 and I finished what I could do getting ready to leave in the morning then we had dinner and watched a DVD movie, the movie last night and tonight wouldn’t work in my DVD Player so we watched them with the computer DVD Drive. Friday 03/12/2010 – I emptied the trailer holding tanks, and typical to trailer tanks the level sensors that indicate how full trailer holding tanks are become shorted by sludge build up between the sensors, so trying to clear the shorts I refilled filled the tanks with water and emptied them again. I decided not to wash the truck for tomorrow it is suppose to storm. For dinner we went to the Buffet at the Casa Blanca; it would have cost $33 but to pay the for our meals I swiped my Casa Blanca Awards Card like you would a debit card and it subtracted 825 points from those I had won playing video games. After dinner we played video games for a while then went to the trailer.
Saturday 03/13/2010 – We had planned to go home today but per the weather forecast last night it is not going to be a good day for traveling on I-15 and we had a coupon for another four nights comp at the RV Park so at 9 a.m. I went and registered for the next four nights, this would cover us through Tuesday the 16th if we want to stay that much longer. I turned on the computer and was surprised to find I was able to get on Verizon Mi-Fi so I sent an e-mail to the family to tell them our change of plans on when we are going home. We went to the Laundromat and washed and dried clothes then back to the trailer at 12:30 we decided to go the McDonalds for lunch. We looked around there for a while and Zola bought a couple books and I bought some hanger hooks. We stopped at the car wash to wash the truck and went through the automatic wash then went back to the trailer. I emptied the trailer sewage holding tank then use my flushing wand to flush it out then drain the gray water tank. Zola got on the computer and read the e-mail then done a batch of name indexing on Family Search Indexing. We had lunch then I got on the computer to work.
